Supermarket News ranked Safeway No. 4 in the 2007 "Top 75 North American Food Retailers" based on 2006 fiscal year estimated sales of $40.5 billion. Based on 2005 revenue, Safeway is the tenth-largest retailer in the United States.

Whole Foods Market is an Austin, Texas-based foods grocer. As of September 2007 the company operates over 270 locations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Whole Foods Market is a food retailer of "natural" and organic products, including produce, seafood, grocery, meat and poultry, bakery, prepared foods and catering, beer, wine, cheese, whole body, floral, pet products, and household products. The Groceries also sells a selection of conventional national brands.The company is consistently ranked among the most socially responsible businesse and placed second on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's list of Top 25 Green Power Partners.

The Fresh Market is a chain of gourmet supermarkets based in North Carolina. The Fresh Market was founded by Ray and Beverly Berry on March 8, 1982 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Berry's idea was to develop a better grocery store that brought back the feeling of open European style markets with smaller, service oriented and focused on perishable goods. The Fresh Market evolved into a chain of 80 stores in 18 southern, midwestern and mid-atlantic states.

Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc.is an American supermarket chain based in Jacksonville, Florida. Winn-Dixie has ranked number 22 in the 2009 "Top 75 North American Food Retailers" based on 2008 fiscal year estimated sales of $7.4 billion by Supermarket News and was ranked the 43rd largest retailer in the United States based on 2006 revenues by Stores Magazine Groceries currently operates 521 stores in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and Mississippi. The company has existed under its present name since 1955 and can date its roots back to 1925.
They are known for their private label Chek brand soft drinks, which are produced in over 20 different flavors plus diet and caffeine-free varieties — one of the widest assortments. The company also sells snacks under the private-label brand Crackin' Good Snacks. They have also been known as "The Beef People". Winn-Dixie now uses the slogan "getting better all the time" in its advertising and print media. Winn Dixie has also appeared in the children's book Because of Winn-Dixie.
Giant Food
Giant Food LLC is a supermarket chain with 202 locations throughout Washington, D.C., Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland. Giant is often referred to as Giant-Landover so not to be confused with sister company Giant-Carlisle Groceries . It is also known by its former name, Giant of Maryland even though it was never exclusively a Maryland grocery chain.
In 2004, Giant-Landover merged with sister company Stop & Shop to create Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover, which itself a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold.
Shop Rite
ShopRite Supermarkets is a retailers' cooperative (co-op) chain of supermarkets in the Northeastern United States, in the states of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Based in Elizabeth, New Jersey, ShopRite consists of 45 individually owned and operated affiliates with over 200 stores, all under its corporate and distribution arm, Wakefern Food Corporation.
In recent years ShopRite has renovated, expanded or totally rebuilt many of its older stores, as well as adding new ones. Most stores are larger than before with improved facilities. Some of the older ShopRite stores date back to the 1950s and 1960s. Examples of a newly built giant ShopRite can be found in Wharton, New Jersey, opened in 2001, and a rebuilt one in nearby Succasunna. ShopRite's slogan "This is Your Neighborhood...This is Your ShopRite" is used when promoting and supporting community events, which is used on their current manufactured trucks. ShopRite is also known for its yearly Can Can Sale, held every January since 1971, and in July 2002 introduced the Summer Can Can Sale Groceries .
In the early 1990s, ShopRite introduced the Price Plus Club Card, which replaced the Courtesy Card. The customer registers free of charge to become a member of the club. The customer gives the cashier the card every time the check out and it adds up to various promotions such as Baby Bucks or Continental Airlines One Pass Miles. The Price Plus card may also save the customer money on items they purchase, depending if they are on sale or not. The benefit of the Price Plus card to ShopRite is that it allows the cooperative to track every purchase and break down consumer purchasing habits based on a variety of variables, even what time of day the consumer prefers to shop.
Since 1999, ShopRite offers the same merchandise on its website, under the service name ShopRite from Home, through MyWebGrocer.com.
Stop & Shop
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company is a chain of supermarkets located mostly in New England and most of the New York City metropolitan area. It is the fifth largest employer in New England.
Stop & Shop was founded in 1914 in Somerville, Massachusetts by the Rabinowitz family as the Economy Grocery Stores Company. The company officially became known as Stop & Shop, Inc. in 1946.
Stop & Shop purchased the now-defunct department store chain Bradlees in 1961, and sold it in 1992. It also operated a chain of pharmacies named Medi-Mart, which was sold to Walgreens Groceries in the late 1980s, as well as Perkins Tobacco Stores in the 1960s and 1970s.
Stop & Shop is now the largest food retailer based in New England (though rival retailer Shaws is the largest supermarket chain whose stores are located solely in the six New England states). It operates more than 360 stores throughout New England, as well as in New York and New Jersey. The corporate headquarters is located in Quincy, Massachusetts and the current distribution facility is located in Assonet, Massachusetts. Until 2006 the firm also operated a large warehouse located off of Interstate 91 in North Haven, Connecticut. The company's original warehouse was in Readville, Massachusetts.
